All students enrolled in courses using Canvas聽are required to complete a one-time online聽orientation to Canvas, the Learning Management System used for Online, Hybrid, and Enhanced聽courses. This self-paced orientation is available in聽Canvas within 24 hours of a student registering for courses and should be completed prior to the start of classes. On average the Orientation should take approximately two hours. Students can access their聽Canvas courses on the first day of class only聽if the orientation has been completed.

Taking the Canvas Student Orientation

  1. NetID/Password – To log into聽Canvas and take the聽Canvas Student Orientation you will need to know your NetID and password. To get these, you will need to
  2. Log into 鈥 use your NetID for your Canvas username and your NetID password as your Canvas password.
  3. Taking the Canvas Orientation – After you log into Canvas, click on the 鈥淪tudent Orientation” course on your dashboard. To start taking the Orientation click on “Start Here” in the “Getting Started” Module. You will then need to work your way through each of the Learning Modules, in order, until you complete the 鈥淲rap-Up Module.鈥. Once you complete the 鈥淔inal Review鈥 in the Wrap-Up Module you are finished with the Orientation.

Some of the topics covered in the Orientation include information on how to be successful in an Online Learning course, how to get your computer ready to use Canvas, and navigating and using Canvas for your coursework.
